Among the most popular, fastest growing, healthiest cities in the U.S. are Washington, D.C.; New York, New York; and San Francisco, Calif. Everywhere you turn, there’s another yoga studio popping up, a running group speeding by or bootcamp participants running stairs at the local park. There’s no denying that group fitness has taken our country by storm. It’s a sign that our culture now promotes and welcomes fun ways to get fit. What a refreshing concept!
With rising healthcare costs, people have been prompted to take alternate routes to regain their health. Personal training is one of the top three fastest growing part-time careers now; it’s a great way to make money on the side, and also change people’s lives. Clients are inquiring about ways to “get back on track,” and “regain their strength.” It’s clear that people are choosing trainers more often now, over rehab clinics and physical therapists. Insurance plans don’t always cover clinics, which can mean out-of-pocket expenditures. Not cool! Trainers can help solve that problem, as most independent ones are willing to work with you on package pricing.
Through this promotion of well-being our country seems to have adopted, it’s opened up doors for many people who never thought achieving personal results was possible. It’s all extremely powerful and turning people from negative to positive ways of thinking, helping them manage stress, allowing them to meet new people, pushing people out of their comfort zones (i.e. pole dancing classes, running half-marathons), and creating new styles of training the industry as never seen (i.e. barre, Spartan races).
Only great things have come from this shift in attention. People are overcoming obstacles, learning how to walk again, creating contests at work to influence weight loss in the office, encouraging friends to make better meal choices, and finally getting heavily processed foods out of their kids’ lunches at school. Corporate influencers have attracted celebrities to represent healthy lifestyles, and television shows now feature weight loss contests, physical obstacle course challenges, dancing contests, and medical-based shows answering health questions that prove to be accurate and helpful — all at no cost.
In a world of chaos, war, and constant change, taking care of yourself is a vital part of your life. Be a part of a positive statistic and join a local fitness group, take a cooking class, and become an influencer in this health revolution. There are so many options and resources to make living a healthy life an easy, affordable, and rewarding one. Take action and remember: Never take your health for granted.
